The work here presented "My Daily Bread" is a summary of spiritual doctrine so simplified and arranged that everyone can come to a knowledge and practice of the principles of the spiritual life. It is divided into three books which treat respectively of the three ways of Spiritual Life. (1)… More
I use this book daily & have read it numerous times. Each time as Christ speaks to me through the pages, the Holy Spirit will illuminate an area of my life that needs Christ's special touch. As this happens, then the prayers that follow have tremendous meaning. It is a book to be read & used & read again & again. But it's also a book that must be applied to one's personal life to have any lasting value.

In the year 1977, I was given a book to help me through my grieving. It was a gift from one of my dear sisters: My Daily Bread by Anthony J. Paone, S.J. When I first read it, I was quite uncomfortable at times, seeing it as saying that I was supposed to be glad that I was suffering, as this would lead me to God. I was suffering! I could not see how being grateful for my suffering was going to help me! I wanted to read something that would lift me and make me feel good while going through my sorrow. But I read it daily looking for inspiration and eventually was led to other books. After decades of reading, prayer and reflection, I remembered that one special book, and how I strongly resisted reading those words that said, "to be grateful for suffering, as this would lead us to God." And I went back to read it again. As I read this wonderful book today – through maturing and a more compassionate heart – it has the depth and holiness that point to a clearer understanding and sacred wisdom of the mysteries of suffering. The more we mature, the truth becomes clearer and some of us begin to see ourselves truly and who we really are. We live our lives searching for something that was with us the entire time, and find it's home, from the pain of a child, and that somehow we knew even then, as young and innocent children that suffering were not from God. But we didn't know what to do with the pain then, until we take responsibility and begin to pray as a child today and ask God to help us. The cries and pain in our youth, twenties, midlife, and golden years, are recognized and seen no different than the cries of the child within us all; that was calling us at home.

This is an excellent daily devotional! It's faithful to the truth of the teachings of the Catholic Church. (It's hard to find a daily devotional with clear Catholic content!) This book is written in clear and simple language. It's portable and approachable for people of all ages including young Catholics. Don't be put off by the fact that it's written in 1954. Our 12 and 14-year old are also reading it daily and getting a lot out of it. We bought extra copies and are giving them away as gifts.

It was my Christmas gift to my husband in English and to my brother and friends in Spanish... It's an excellent guide in your spiritual path. Gives to your daily life a perspective that transcends the material things and brings you near God.

I'm very fond of this book. It was given to me as a gift thirty years ago to help me through my grieving. Even after all these years I am amazed how I still receive the message that I need for that day! This book holds every bit of sacred wisdom that will guide you on the right path with God.

An aunt who is in her 70's passed on her daily book to me when I was in high school, about 30 yrs. ago. Ever since, the message in the book has been a daily guide for me. I have shared it with my husband and to some very close friends, and we truly experience God's presence thru the daily messages in it. It is very inspiring and very real, as if one is in direct communication with the Lord.

I just received this book, it was my father's. I have been reading it for two weeks. I have never read anything as wonderful as this. It is very thought provoking. I am going to purchase several of these to give to my dearest friends because I truly feel everyone should have a copy of this.

I have read through this book a chapter a day a few years ago and found it excellent at moving through our faith and finding daily insights in a quick format with no-nonsense teachings. I found this short time reflecting and growing each day to be a true gift from God. I have purchased as many copies as I could before since the book was out of print - if you have anyone who is maturing in their faith as an adult this book would be a tremendous asset to them.
